Special Projects at Baltimore City Public Schools
Baltimore City Public Schools is a large urban school district with a $1.2 billion budget and 80,000 students and 10,000 employees. As Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, J.D. supported the daily operations of the district and led special projects including:

Enrollment and Attendance:
After facing a $130 million budget crisis due in part to declining enrollment, led the district’s partnership with the Baltimore Teachers Union and City of Baltimore to engage in a grassroots effort to boost enrollment in City Schools.

School Beautification:
Developed a plan to transform and beautify schools across the district and then led the district’s partnership with the Heart of America Foundation to do just that, bringing enhancements to four schools across the district in just over a year
Strategic Direction:
Coordinated the development of a comprehensive vision for system-wide improvement titled, Building a Generation: City Schools Blueprint for Success. Supported the implementation of the vision through budgeting, fundraising, and site selection for schools that would implement a focus area of the blueprint.

Student Athlete Development:
Facilitated the district’s partnership with Under Armour, the Baltimore Ravens, and the InSideOut Initiative to outfit every City Schools student athlete in Under Armour apparel, provide athletic facility enhancements, and provide professional development to coaches and athletic directors.
